The on going saga of the bulge, the extra pounds, can be mind boggling. How can we overcome this problem.

You have to plan your meals with precision. Eating at irregular intervals can contribute to your blood glucose levels rising or falling significantly. This can lead to significant weight gain, especially in the abdominal area. Studies have shown that skipping breakfast is one of the major cause of weight gain and body mass index. Fighting excessive fat in the in the abdominal area can be a difficult task, often without success.

There are basically two types of body fats:
1. Subcutaneous fat – which is stored under the skin which is relatively harmless
2. Visceral fat – which is stored in the abdominal cavity is what cushions the organs in
that area and is what give us the belly bulge.

Belly fat, also called visceral fat can secrete hormones, causing inflammation on the vessels and around the heart which can lead to cardiovascular disease. It is considered the most harmful body fat.

The hormones released by visceral fat can cause inflammation and insulin resistance of tissues. This chronic inflammation and insulin resistance can lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and certain cancers including breast , prostate and colon. Too much visceral fat , also called central abdominal obesity, can be harmful to your health and needs to be reduced.

Self motivation and self determination begins with you and me. We have to make the importance changes needed to achieve this goal and go on with our lives.

We have to start making healthy choices . Changing our mind set on how and what we eat, moving a lot more in terms of exercise. Being more active in the home or simply taking a walk can be very helpful. It helps to release stress which is another contributor of weight gain.
